13.3.4. Drawing of a first coat and body painting

Before starting performance of the operations described in this section, read the subsections devoted to elimination of dents (subsection 13.3.2 see), scratches (subsection 13.3.1), a rust see and cracks (subsection 13.3.3 see).

There are many types of a first coat, however, generally speaking, is better the complete sets including capacity with priming paste and a tube with a hardener will approach. The wide, flexible plastic or nylon small brush is simply necessary for reception of an equal and smooth surface.

1. Get mixed up a first coat small amount on a pure piece of a cardboard – add exactly that quantity of a hardener which is necessary (follow instructions of the manufacturer of a first coat), otherwise the first coat will harden too quickly or on the contrary, very much at a distant day.
2. By means of a small brush put a first coat on the prepared surface; spend a small brush on a first coat for alignment of a surface and first coat distribution on the demanded area.
3. After all necessary area will be covered by a first coat, stop first coat drawing.
4. If you put a first coat too long, it will thicken and begins to stick to a small brush.
5. Continue to put first coat layers through 20-minute intervals until the first coat surface will not be hardly above level of a surrounding surface.
6. After the first coat will harden, surplus of a first coat can be removed by means of a file.
7. Then it is necessary to use more and more small emery paper for surface processing. Always turn an emery paper round the flat rubber or wooden block – otherwise the surface will not be absolutely flat.
8. At last stages of processing of a surface of a first coat, the paper is necessary for washing out periodically in water. It will ensure very equal polishing.
9. At this stage, the surface processed by a first coat should be surrounded by a ring of pure metal which should be in turn surrounded by an edge of a good paint. Wash out area of repair by pure water to wash off all dust formed as a result of polishing.
10. Cover all area with a thin layer of a control paint is will show all errors and roughnesses of a surface шпатлевки.
11. Remove these roughnesses by means of drawing of a new layer of a first coat. And again process a surface шпатлевки a skin. Repeat this procedure of drawing of a control paint coat and a first coat until you will not be satisfied by a first coat surface, and it will not be level with surrounding painted surface.
12. Clear area of repair by pure water and allow surfaces to dry up.
13. At first coat use, it is recommended to mix it with cellulose solvent for formation of very liquid paste which is ideal for filling of small apertures.
14. The repair area is now ready for last stage – paintings. Paint drawing should be made in dry, warm atmosphere without draughts and a dust. It is easy to these conditions to correspond, if you work in a workshop, but if you have to work in the open air, you should be very accurate in a choice of day for painting carrying out.
15. If you work indoors the covering of a floor of a premise water will help you to get rid of a dust which differently would remain in air.
16. If the repair area is limited by one of elements of a body of the car, protect surrounding elements from hit on them paints; it will help to minimise effect of easy distinction in colours of a paint. Elements of furnish and other details (such as and so on) also are necessary for closing the chromeplated strips, handles of doors. Use a sticky tape and some layers of newspapers for closing of adjoining surfaces.
17. Before to start painting, carefully stir up баллончик with a paint, then put a paint coat on a control surface (old bank, for example) until will fulfil technics of drawing of a paint.
18. Cover repair area with a thick initial paint coat; the necessary thickness should achieve, putting consistently thin paint coats, instead of one thick layer.
19. By means of very small skin process a surface of initial painting while it will not be very equal and smooth. Thus, the work area should be washed out carefully water, the same as also a skin. Allow the previous paint coat to dry up before to put a new paint coat.
20. Put last paint coat, again achieving a necessary thickness, putting consistently thin paint coats. Start to put a paint on one edge of a processed surface and then, moving a hand here and there, process all surface demanding painting, and also the painted surface of a body in radius about 4–6 sm from a processed surface.
21. Remove all sheetings approximately in 10–15 minutes after drawing of last paint coat.
22. Wait approximately two weeks that the new paint has hardened, then, by means of the polishing car or very thin abrasive paste, mix edges of a new paint with an old paint. After that, put a polishing layer.
