3.1.1.9. Backlashes in the mechanism of a drive of valves


The prevention

Backlashes in valves are checked only on the hot engine. The manufacturer establishes standard backlashes for the heated-up and cold engine. Backlashes on the cold engine are checked only before start of the engine after major repairs. After engine warming up it is necessary to check up backlashes again.


Check and adjustment of backlashes are carried out only after considerable run of the car, engine major repairs, or by search of the reasons of falling of capacity of the engine if there is a suspicion on malfunction of the mechanism of a drive of valves.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To check up backlashes follows only in case of the raised noise from outside a drive of valves, after engine major repairs, or in case of search of the reasons of falling of capacity of the engine if there is a suspicion on malfunction газораспределительного the mechanism.
2. Sketch on a sheet of paper of an outline of the engine and specify an arrangement of cylinders with 1st on 4th, considering that 1st cylinder is located from outside covers of chains of a drive of cam-shafts. Specify position of each of valves, and also inscribe a backlash which it should be observed according to specifications. At the valve image on the scheme draw two lines in which the measured backlash and size on which will be specified it is required to correct a backlash.

The prevention

The manufacturer establishes two groups of admissions of backlashes in valves. One group – for check of backlashes, and another – for adjustment and installation of backlashes in valves. Admissions of verifying group are the greatest, however insistently it is recommended to support all backlashes within adjusting group of admissions (though observance of this condition and is not strictly necessary).


3. Warm up the engine, switch off ignition and uncover heads of cylinders.
4. Establish the piston of 1st cylinder in ВМТ a compression step.
5. Measure щупами a backlash between a cam of a cam-shaft and a pusher in following valves, writing down each result:

  – 1st cylinder – inlet and final valves;
  – 2nd cylinder – inlet valves;
  – 3rd cylinder – final valves.
6. Turn коленвал on an hour hand on 360 , having combined risk ВМТ with the index. коленвала the piston of 4th cylinder is in this position in ВМТ a compression step.
7. Measure a backlash in following valves, writing down each result:

  – 2nd cylinder – final valves;
  – 3rd cylinder – inlet valves;
  – 4th cylinder – inlet and final valves.
8. Calculate and write down a difference between measured and standard backlashes. If the backlash in any valve differs from standard replace an adjusting washer of this valve, having picked up a new washer on a thickness.
9. To get an adjusting washer it is necessary to wring out a pusher on sufficient distance, having overcome effort of a spring of the valve. For this purpose the cam-shaft should be turned so that the cam of the corresponding valve has been turned aside from a pusher. Then turn a pusher so that the groove on it has been located at right angle to a cam-shaft axis.
10. Having rested рожковый a key or a strong screw-driver against a cam-shaft, and operating as with the lever, wring out a pusher on sufficient distance that the lining could slip out. Having removed a lining, slowly release a pusher. If the lining does not give in to removal it is necessary to remove a cam-shaft (cм. Subsection 3.1.1.10).
11. The thickness of an adjusting lining is specified on its bottom surface (for example 224 means a thickness of 2,24 mm), however it is recommended to measure a washer by a micrometer as the thickness can decrease owing to deterioration.

The prevention

In spare parts washers with a thickness from 2,00 to 2,98 mm with step to 0,02 mm are delivered.


12. If the measured backlash less standard subtract the measured backlash from standard, then the received result subtract from a thickness of the removed washer.

Example:

The backlash in the inlet valve is less than norm
The measured backlash of 0,26 mm
Standard backlash of 0,36 mm (from 0,32 to 0,40 mm)
Difference of 0,10 mm
Thickness of the established washer of 2,50 mm
Demanded thickness 2,50 - 0,10 = 2,40 mm

13. If the measured backlash exceeds standard from the measured backlash subtract standard, then the received result add to a thickness of the removed washer.

Example:

The backlash in the final valve exceeds norm
The measured backlash of 0,51 mm
Standard backlash of 0,41 mm (from 0,37 to 0,45 mm)
Difference of 0,10 mm
Thickness of the established washer of 2,76 mm
Demanded thickness 2,76 + 0,10 = 2,86 mm

14. Wring out a pusher, then establish into place an adjusting washer with the picked up thickness so that the party with marks has been turned downwards. Be convinced that the washer is established correctly, then repeat the described procedure for other valves backlashes in which differ from standard (if those are available).
15. Upon termination of adjustment of backlashes turn коленвал on not less than 4 turns in a direction of normal rotation. Again check up backlashes in valves.
16. If all backlashes correspond to norm establish a cover of a head of cylinders, establish other removed details.
